Event Name: CPR Program on 26th of April,2009
The most important determinant of survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the presence of a trained rescuer who is ready, willing, able and equipped to act. Our greatest challenge continues to be the improvement of lay rescuer education. Any improvements resulting from Advanced Life Support therapies are less substantial than the increases in survival rate reported from successful deployment of lay rescuer CPR and AED programs in the community. Our aim should be to increase access to CPR education, increase effectiveness and efficiency of instruction, improve skills retention and reduce barriers to action for basic and advanced life support providers. With this background information from the American Heart Association, a community program on CPR was held at Srinivasa Heart Centre on 26/04/2009.Anecdotal reports of Sudden Cardiac Arrest are not uncommon. Understanding the need for a systematic community training program on CPR, this program was conducted on 26/04/2009.Around 100 members of the community which included people from all walks of life—employees of various government departments—police, electricity, revenue, telephone, Roads and Transport, railways, judiciary, schools)lawyers, staff from banks, members of the pharma industry, press, school and college students attended this program. A power point presentation on Sudden Cardiac Death, principles of CPR was delivered by Dr. Srinivas Ramaka in the local language –Telugu. Demonstration of Hands-Only CPR using mannekin and demonstration of an AED was given to the attendees.
